Things to Do When Vacationing in Ormond Beach, Florida
One of our favorite cities to visit in Florida is Ormond Beach. Ormond Beach is located just north of the famous Daytona Beach. It is a small city which also offers beautiful resorts, shopping, and quaint living. Because it offers beach living in a very relaxing way, our family loves to visit Ormond Beach.
Not only do we love visiting the beaches, but the locals are very nice people. There is just something about living on the beachside that makes you smile every day.
Ormond Beach also includes Ormond By the Sea, which is the beachside of the city. It’s just a short ride over the bridge and the magic begins. We love our Ormond Beach life!
Riding the Waves
If you love surfing, Ormond-By-the-Sea tends to have high waves for you to ride. I’m not a surfer, but many people love to go out and ride those waves in Ormond Beach.
If you are lucky, you may find someone that can teach your kids how to ride the waves too. There was a surfer that offered to provide a mini-lesson on the surfboard with our daughter. She had so much fun. Take a risk and check out the beach for some waves!
Collecting Seashells
Ormond-By-the-Sea also has many beautiful seashells along the seashore. You and your family will be able to collect different kinds of seashells at the beach.
You can discover the many different colors, shapes, and sizes of the seashells and take them home with you. My kids love to collect seashells and save them as each shell reminds them of the moments they spent with family on the beach.
If you are an artist, you can also try using seashells to create a beachside masterpiece.

Beautiful Sunrises
You can’t visit Ormond-By-the-Sea without experiencing the beautiful sunsets or sunrises. I love to get up early in the morning and take our dog for a walk along the beach and look at the gorgeous sunrise.
The ocean loves to say “good morning” to you while you smile back at it. Dolphins, birds and other spectators are just some of the life you see during the early morning view.
You can put on your running shoes and take a jog or stroll along the sand. If you like, bring your beach chairs with your morning coffee and enjoy the show.
If you really want to unwind, bring a tent canopy for some shade, chips and sandwiches, your favorite music and spend the entire day on the beach. It will keep the kids occupied swimming or playing in the sand and your mind will be “away from your desk” for hours.
Go Fish!
If you love gathering your fish gear and heading out to sea, Ormond-By-the-Sea is a place for you. When we go to the beach we sometimes see fishermen alongside the beach setting up their fishing equipment and reeling in their next catch.
Try it, you just might catch snook, sea trout, redfish, or flounder. Make sure to research and follow all the rules and regulations on fishing in Ormond Beach.

Recreational Parks
Ormond Beach also have parks for you and your family to enjoy. These facilities are located throughout Ormond Beach and Ormond-By-the-Sea for you to use.
Some offer beach access, gazebos/pavilions, outdoor grills, parking, picnic areas, playgrounds, restrooms, water fountains, outdoor showers and plenty of other amenities. You can go on nature walks on trails, or play sports like basketball, football and soccer on the fields.
Canoe or kayak launches are also provided at some of these parks. You can play tennis or racquetball on the courts, or shuffleboard if you choose. Some Ormond Beach parks also provide camping for you and your family. You can pitch a tent if you like or find a location where you can park your RV.
There is also a park for your fur babies too. Your fur baby can enjoy separate areas for dogs, watering stations, shade trees, and benches. Your furry friends can also have a great beach day too!
Shopping, Restaurants and Fun
Do you enjoy shopping? Ormond Beach has different shopping experiences too. I’m more of a budget shopper, so I always look for bargain stores whenever I visit new places.
I am able to find plenty of bargain stores, grocery stores, and shopping outlets to fit my budget in Ormond Beach. If you need a larger variety of stores or maybe you are into luxury shopping with high fashion and designer labels, Ormond Beach is just a few minutes away from the bigger shopping malls and tourist attractions in Daytona Beach as well.
In addition, Ormond Beach offers lots of choices for restaurants for your family. There are family-owned restaurants and many popular restaurant food chains, in addition to, fine dining.
If you just want to have a simple meal by the oceanside over at Ormond-By-the-Sea, there are plenty of choices too. Ormond Beach also has places to grab a drink, night bars, and lounges if you are into that excitement.
Those of you like myself, that love ethnic restaurants, vegan meals, and of course, ice cream for the kids, Ormond Beach offers it all!
Down Time
Where do we rest our weary heads in Ormond Beach? Look no further, because Ormond Beach provides all types of accommodations for families.
Our family prefers to stay in vacation homes when we travel versus your typical hotel. We love to stay in rooms that offer bigger square footage, more privacy, full kitchens, and if possible, an outside patio.
There are hundreds of vacation properties located in Ormond Beach. They have beautiful vacation homes for rent, some which are right on the oceanfront at Ormond-By-the-Sea, short walking distance or a few minutes drive to the beach. Examples of these homes can be a single-family house or a condo.
If you aren’t afraid of heights unlike me, rent a condo on the 10th floor right on the ocean and wake up to the breathless views every morning of your vacation.
If you prefer the amenities and services of a hotel or resort-like dining, vending, exercise, recreation, swimming pools, parking, room service, or onsite stores, there are many options, on or off the oceanfront.
You have so many possibilities when it comes to accommodations, so seek what is best for your family and have a blast in Ormond Beach!
When we want to go on a beach vacation, we always choose Ormond Beach. Ormond Beach is such a short distance from Central Florida so we can jump in the family car and head to the beach.
We love going over to Ormond-By-the-Sea as this is the area that’s directly on the beach. Ormond Beach is such a quiet city with kind people and beautiful beaches. We get up each morning with excitement because we know we will be doing something that involves four beach bums. Salt life, here we come!
