Top 3 Family Attractions in Williamsburg, Virginia
Our family took a trip out to Virginia for my son’s basketball tournament. After the tournament, we ventured out to other parts of Virginia to let the kids have some fun. We decided to visit Williamsburg, Virginia.
Williamsburg is about an 11-hour drive north of Central Florida. Williamsburg is located on the Virginia Peninsula, north of the metropolitan area.
Williamsburg, Virginia and its surrounding areas have so many historical sites such as Colonial Williamsburg, Historic Jamestowne, Jamestown Settlement, Yorktown Battlefield, Yorktown Victory Center and Monticello.
Williamsburg is filled with so much history, but when you are not learning, there are so many fun things for the whole family to enjoy. Learn about the top three family attractions at Williamsburg, Virginia.
Great Wolf Lodge, Williamsburg
We researched the top children’s activities in or around Williamsburg, Virginia and found Great Wolf Lodge resort and water park. We were so excited that we were going to stay at Great Wolf Lodge.
This resort’s rate is a little on the pricey side for us frugal folks, but it is worth every penny. A night at the resort includes your water park passes, no worries. However, you do have an option to buy a day pass and enjoy the indoor water park without spending the night at the resort.
This was our first time at any of these franchises and the kids were so happy to be there. We love anything with water, so being able to stay at a resort with an indoor water park was fascinating.
Great Wolf Lodge did not disappoint. We had stayed at other water park resorts in other areas, but we preferred Great Wolf Lodge over the others.
We really adored the rooms at the resort. Great Wolf Lodge offers Standard, Theme and Premium rooms. We decided to book a themed room. There’s the KidKamp, Wolf Den, KidCabin, and Whirlpool Fireplace themed suites. We stayed in the KidKamp room #4002 that was a camping theme. It was so cool!
It created a feeling like you are camping in the outdoors. There was a separate area for the kids with a bunk bed that had a small window to look out which made them feel like they were in a tent.
The other side of the room was the living area where there was a queen-size bed, in addition to a full size pull out sofa. There was also a dining space to eat and an outdoor patio to enjoy the view. Your basic amenities such as a microwave and a mini-fridge were included.
There are tons and tons of activities to do at the resort, but the major attraction is the water park. Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg has water slides and pools inside as well as outside the resort.
When we visited, it was nice and hot, therefore we were able to enjoy both sides of the resorts, inside and out. Inside there were water tube rides, a water fort tree house for the small kids, hot tubs, a wave pool, and a surf simulator.
If you are wondering what is a surf simulator, it is a self-contained machine that mimics the action of waves only about a few inches deep. Cool!
Outside the resort were water basketball, water fountains and more water slides.
After the kids left the water park, we took them to the indoor game arcade. They won lots of tickets and earned many prizes.
Great Wolf Lodge also offers many free children and toddler activities planned throughout each day and night like character appearances, storytime and pajama parties.
Great Wolf Lodge was definitely one of the best things to do in Williamsburg with kids.

Busch Gardens, Williamsburg
We also visited Busch Gardens amusement park in Williamsburg. This theme park was a slower pace than the water park, as there were not as many people with more things to do based on your interests.
Busch Gardens offered shows, rides and lots of foods for you and your family to enjoy. Rides included tall and fast roller coasters, swinging boat rides, bumper cars, virtual reality experiences, swing rides, sky rides, a river cruise and so much more! The theatres had different kinds of shows for your family to enjoy as well.
We decided to see the entertaining More… Pet Shenanigans show with animal tricks, we relaxed on the scenic train ride around the park, played basketball and soccer games, saw many animals and enjoyed the rides.
Water Country USA
We couldn’t get enough of the water rides so we also went out to Water Country USA, a water theme park. Living in Florida, we have gone to so many water parks before, so we just couldn’t pass on the opportunity to experience Water Country USA.
I enjoyed Water Country USA because they had more rides that I could enjoy like the low thrill rides. I don’t really like the tall and fast water rides, and Water Country USA had other options for someone like me.
For example, I was able to enjoy the very lazy river. Nothing beats feeling free and allowing the water current to move you through the river while getting sprayed or drenched on.
There were also plenty of kid-friendly rides and play areas too.
Honestly, some of the medium thrill rides I would say were more low thrill as well. The medium thrill rides included tube rides with twists and turns and water slides.
High thrill rides were the high drop slides and mega slides, no thank you. However, everyone else in my family enjoyed those. We had a great day at Water Country USA!
Overall, we had a blast enjoying Williamsburg’s fun attractions for the family. Williamsburg, Virginia is full of history, but also a place for you and your family to explore.
There were shopping malls, great restaurants, and museums to enjoy. We were so happy that they had both water and amusement parks. We would definitely return to Williamsburg for our family vacation.
If you ever wanted to know what fun activities to do with your kids in Williamsburg, Virginia try visiting Great Wolf Lodge, Busch Gardens or Water Country USA.
Your family will love all the activities they offer. You can enjoy Williamsburg indoor activities at Great Wolf Lodge with all the hot tubs, wave pools, arcades and tons of children’s activities.
If you prefer outdoor activities visit Busch Gardens say hello to the animals and ride the big roller coasters. Busch Gardens is also an attraction for adults with many entertainment of shows and more.
Water Country USA is also a great place to visit in the summer with all the thrill water rides and slides. If you are not a thrill-seeker like I am, enjoy a nice relaxing ride in the lazy river.
